Thanks so much for being a part of our SmartyPlants family, and a subscriber to our Weekly Meal Plan. We’re so happy that you’re here! This week, we’re taking a little trip to the vibrant country of India for some big flavors! We’re featuring some unbelievable meals, where the star of the show is curry! Curry powder is an ingredient in 3 of our recipes this week. One of the main ingredients in curry powder is turmeric. Other spices can include everything from ginger, cinnamon, garlic, and cloves, to mustard seed, black pepper, and fennel seeds. It can be mild, sweet or hot, and we’ll be using it this week to add warm and comforting flavors to our dishes. But, curry powder is actually not a staple ingredient in authentic Indian cooking. The term “curry” refers not to the spice blend, but to a popular Indian dish which is made up of a sauce or gravy. The spice blend most often used in an Indian curry is garam masala, which means “hot” (garam) and “a mix of spices” (masala). We are also using garam masala in one of our dishes this week! If you are not familiar with Indian food, then you are in for a real treat. We're talking about Sweet Masala Bowls with Coconut Curried Sausage, Garam Masala Stuffed Baked Potatoes, and our Red Lentil Dal with Spinach and Tomatoes! |

Sweet Masala Bowls with Coconut Curried Sausage Our Coconut Curried Sausage is the star of the show here! The combination is amazing! And our Sweet Curry Dressing is the perfect compliment to the Sausage, over hearty grains and crunchy veggies. Sweet curry deliciousness!

Red Lentil Dal with Spinach and Tomatoes Did you know that lentils are one of the healthiest foods on the planet? They are 26% protein, coming in 3rd in the plant world behind soybeans and hemp seeds. “Dal” refers to a split version of lentils, peas, chickpeas and other legumes. If a lentil is split in half, it is a dal. Dal is also the name for a thick stew or soup made from these legumes. Our Dal is made with creamy red lentils, mixed with spinach, tomatoes and all of the right spices. Make this simple dish, and dig into a bowl of warm and toasty, Indian comfort food. |
