Nighty-night! This delicious and calming drink is warm, soothing, anti inflammatory, and above all else, a delicious way to end the day. It’s perfect for that late-night sweet tooth that sometimes creeps up on us.

Ingredients

7  whole cloves
1  star anise
7  cardamom pods
1 teaspoon black peppercorns
2 cups plant-based milk, unsweetened, I like vanilla almond milk for this
1 14.5 oz can light coconut milk
2 tablespoons 100% pure maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 pinch ground nutmeg

Directions

  1. Place the cloves, star anise, cardamom pods, and peppercorns into a saucepan over medium heat. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Stirring will help to bring out their amazing flavors!

  2. Add the remaining ingredients to the saucepan and whisk thoroughly.

  3. Cook over medium heat, whisking often. Just before the mixture is about to boil, remove it from heat. Strain over a colander to remove the spice pieces.

  4. Let your drink cool slightly and serve in mugs with an extra sprinkling of cinnamon.

  5. Cheers to a great night of sleep!

Recipe Notes

If you have a spice bag, you can use that to place the spices in, for easy removal.

Star anise is a spice made from the fruit of a Chinese evergreen tree called Illicium verum. It's named for its pretty star-shaped pods, that you can see in our picture, which hold the spice seeds. Star anise has a slight licorice flavor.
